FAQ

What is The Usher?

The Usher is a movie discovery app that focuses on what matters for movie night: how critics and audiences feel about a film (including Rotten Tomatoes scores when available) and where you can stream, rent, or buy it.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-in or registration — you can search and browse right away.

Where does movie data come from?

We combine data from trusted movie databases and services to show titles, availability, and ratings. See our Privacy page for which providers we use when you search or ask a question.

Is my search history shared?

Recent searches in the mobile app stay on your device. For more detail on data and third parties, read Privacy.

What is “Ask The Usher”?

It's a built-in AI assistant you can use to ask anything about a movie — who's in it, whether it's appropriate for kids, how it compares to the original, whatever you're curious about. No searching, no scrolling. Just ask.

Is The Usher free?

Yes. The Usher is completely free to use.

Why don't I see a streaming option for a certain movie?

Some movies aren't currently available to stream, rent, or buy digitally. If The Usher doesn't show a streaming option, the movie may only be available on physical media or hasn't been licensed to any platform in your region yet.

Why does the Rotten Tomatoes score look different than what I see on their site?

The Usher displays the Tomatometer (critics) score. Rotten Tomatoes also has an Audience Score, which can differ significantly. Occasional small discrepancies can happen due to timing of when scores are updated.

How is this different from IMDb or Letterboxd?

Those apps do a lot. The Usher does two things really well — shows you the score and where to watch it. It was built for people who don't want to scroll through cast bios and trivia just to find out if something's on Netflix.
