The Usher is a movie discovery app. It's designed to be simple, and that extends to how we handle your data. Here's the short version: we collect very little, store almost nothing, and don't know who you are.

No Account, No Personal Data

The Usher doesn't require sign-in, registration, or payment. We don't collect your name, email address, or any personal information.

Your Searches Stay on Your Device

Recent searches are stored locally on your device and never sent to our servers. They exist only to make the app more convenient for you. You can clear them at any time. Note: the recent searches feature is available in the app only, not on the web.

Third-Party Services

When you search for a movie, we send that query to the following services to fetch results:

  • TMDB (The Movie Database) — for movie details and streaming availability (TMDB Privacy Policy)
  • OMDB (Open Movie Database) — for ratings and additional movie info (omdbapi.com)
  • Anthropic (Claude) — powers the AI assistant feature when you ask a question (Anthropic Privacy Policy)

These services receive the search query or question you type, but no personal information is attached to it.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand broad usage patterns — things like which features are used most and general app performance. This data is aggregated and anonymous. We don't track individual behavior or build profiles about you.

Advertising

The Usher does not currently display ads. If that changes in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make meaningful changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
